August 2019 wurde GFI Europe gegr\u00fcndet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Welt sah damals ganz anders aus: KI gab es fast nur in Science-Fiction-Formaten, Gro\u00dfbritannien war (gerade) noch in der Europ\u00e4ischen Union, und niemand hatte je vom Coronavirus geh\u00f6rt. Eben eine andere Welt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Und auch im Hinblick auf alternative Proteine war das vielseitige \u00d6kosystem aus Forschung, Industrie und Politik, das wir heute sehen, kaum vorstellbar. Internationale Krisen und Instabilit\u00e4t haben die Arbeit nicht leichter gemacht. Doch trotz neuer Hindernisse haben wir unser Bestes gegeben, in diesen f\u00fcnf Jahren viel zu bewirken und den Sektor f\u00fcr pflanzenbasierte, fermentationsbasierte und kultivierte Proteine auf dem gesamten Kontinent zu unterst\u00fctzen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wir feiern diesen Geburtstag mit einem Vorher-Nachher-Vergleich. Was hat sich im Bereich alternativer Proteine in den letzten f\u00fcnf Jahren aus wissenschaftlicher und kommerzieller Perspektive \u2013 und bei uns im Team \u2013 getan?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Unser Team<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Seit der Gr\u00fcndung ist unser Team enorm gewachsen und mit ihm auch, was wir bewirken k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ende 2019 hatten wir nur vier Teammitglieder in zwei L\u00e4ndern. Zun\u00e4chst weckt es bei Studierenden Interesse daran, im Sektor zu arbeiten und als Nachwuchs bei Startups und anderen Unternehmen zu starten. Es erm\u00f6glicht auch gr\u00f6\u00dfere und diversere Forschungsprojekte und er\u00f6ffnet F\u00f6rderm\u00f6glichkeiten f\u00fcr Projekte und Equipment. In dem Ma\u00dfe, wie der Bereich w\u00e4chst und das allgemeine Bewusstsein f\u00fcr ihn zunimmt, wird auch mehr interdisziplin\u00e4re Arbeit und eine gegenseitige Inspiration mit anderen Forschungsbereichen m\u00f6glich. Ein solches \u00d6kosystem aufzubauen gelingt nicht \u00fcber Nacht. Es muss kontinuierlich wachsen, angefangen bei Studierenden bis hin zu universit\u00e4ren Kursen und Firmenkooperationen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bei der Gr\u00fcndung des Alternative Protein Projects im Jahr 2020 gab es nur ein einziges Chapter in Europa \u2013 an der Wageningen Universit\u00e4t in den Niederlanden. Seitdem floriert die studentische Community. Die von Studierenden gef\u00fchrten Organisationen spielen eine Schl\u00fcsselrolle dabei, organisches Wachstum im Forschungs\u00f6kosystem alternativer Proteine zu erm\u00f6glichen. Sie legen ein Fundament, auf dem auf institutioneller Ebene aufgebaut werden kann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tats\u00e4chlich k\u00f6nnen wir das bereits beobachten: Neben dem wachsenden Grassroots-Netzwerk des APP entstehen europaweit an Universit\u00e4ten auch formalisierte Kurse zu alternativen Proteinen. Diese haben wir auf unserer Website f\u00fcr <a href=\"https:\/\/gfieurope.org\/science\/students-and-educators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Studierende und Lehrende<\/a> zusammengefasst. Doch trotz des guten Starts bleibt noch einiges zu tun, um ein robustes \u00d6kosystem aufzubauen, und auch Kurse zu alternativen Proteinen sind l\u00e4ngst noch nicht die Regel an europ\u00e4ischen Universit\u00e4ten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neben der Arbeit am \u00d6kosystem haben wir als GFI Europe auch mit unserem eigenen F\u00f6rderprogramm Forschung unterst\u00fctzt, um die dr\u00e4ngendsten Fragen im Bereich alternative Proteine zu beantworten. H\u00e4ufig haben die von uns gef\u00f6rderten Projekte im weiteren Verlauf <a href=\"https:\/\/gfieurope.org\/blog\/cultivated-meat-innovation-challenge-winners-unlock-e1-2-million-in-additional-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deutlich h\u00f6here class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><strong>Poli<\/strong>tische Unterst\u00fctzung<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00d6ffentliche Investitionen in alternative Proteine sind von entscheidender Bedeutung, um sicherzustellen, dass innovative Lebensmittel entwickelt werden, die in Bezug auf Geschmack und Preis wettbewerbsf\u00e4hig sind.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forschung und Entwicklung sind daf\u00fcr von entscheidender Bedeutung, aber sie sind auch teuer und risikobehaftet. Gleiches gilt f\u00fcr die Ausweitung der Produktion, die sogenannte Skalierung. Angesichts des immer st\u00e4rker werdenden finanziellen Drucks und der geringen Gewinnspannen im Lebensmittelsektor sind private Investitionen zwar von unsch\u00e4tzbarem Wert, k\u00f6nnen aber allein nicht in ausreichendem Ma\u00dfe unterst\u00fctzen. Dar\u00fcber hinaus erm\u00f6glicht die \u00f6ffentliche F\u00f6rderung einen offenen Austausch auf Basis von Open-Access-Forschungsergebnissen, anstatt dass mehrere Firmen und Institutionen isolierte Forschung betreiben, deren Fragen und Ergebnisse sich wom\u00f6glich doppeln.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daher ist die Ausweitung der \u00f6ffentlichen Finanzierung f\u00fcr alternative Proteine eine unserer Hauptpriorit\u00e4ten. Wir arbeiten mit Verb\u00fcndeten auf EU- und L\u00e4nderebene zusammen, um neue Investitionen in Forschung und Entwicklung und in die Skalierung anzuregen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bei der Gr\u00fcndung von GFI Europe im Jahr 2019 hatte nur eine einzige Regierung in Europa eine Investition von mehr als 1 Million Euro get\u00e4tigt. Bis 2024 ist diese Zahl auf elf angewachsen, mit mehreren Projekten in zweistelliger Millionenh\u00f6he. Basierend auf den Eintr\u00e4gen in unserer <a href=\"https:\/\/gfi.org\/resource\/alternative-protein-company-database\/#company-database\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unternehmensdatenbank<\/a> ist die Zahl der Startups und Unternehmen im Bereich alternative Proteine in Europa um sch\u00e4tzungsweise 45 % gestiegen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au\u00dferdem steigt auch das Interesse von Verbraucher:innen an alternativen Proteinquellen \u2013 von <a href=\"https:\/\/gfieurope.org\/blog\/over-50-of-europeans-are-eating-less-meat-but-taste-and-price-remain-biggest-barriers-to-plant-based-uptake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pflanzlichen Proteinen<\/a> bis hin zu <a href=\"https:\/\/gfieurope.org\/blog\/survey-finds-european-consumers-want-freedom-to-choose-cultivated-meat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kultiviertem Fleisch<\/a>.
