The Good Food Institute Europe responds to McDonald’s UK launch of a plant-based burger.
McDonald’s has announced the launch of its plant-based burger in the UK on 29 September. It will be trialled in 10 restaurants in Coventry initially, before being expanded to a further 250 restaurants across the UK from 13 October, and to outlets nationwide in 2022.
Responding to the news, Carlotte Lucas, corporate engagement manager at the Good Food Institute Europe, said: “McDonald’s is hardly the first restaurant chain to launch a plant-based meat option, but it is the biggest – and the McPlant will introduce more people than ever to sustainable food choices.
“Creating a new item with the iconic ‘Mc’ branding demonstrates that McDonald’s sees real and sustained demand for plant-based options. Other companies should see this competition and raise their game, by investing in the delicious, affordable and convenient plant-based options consumers want.”
